Bar NI Ranch Community Fund

Trinidad, Colorado, the Bar NI Ranch Community Fund is a private foundation formed in 2004 to provide support to local nonprofits and service organizations of the Purgatoire Valley.

During two grant cycles a year, Spring and Fall, grants are awarded in the areas of youth development, education, environment and conservation, health and human services, and civic and public benefit.

Grant awards are made to nonprofit organizations in the Purgatoire Valley with projects that serve to inspire awareness, expand horizons, create independence, and ignite the spirit.

Creative collaboration is strongly encouraged.

History

In 2004, through the generosity of the Cabot Family and the Virginia Wellington Cabot estate, the Bar NI Ranch Community Fund was formed to give back to the local communities and their non-profit organizations near the Bar NI Ranch. It is a private foundation.

Early in 2004 Tom and Linda Perry, then managers of the Bar NI Ranch, gathered community leaders together at the Bar NI Ranch to help identify needs in the community and ideas and ways to address those needs.

Initially the fund was set up to award $20-$25,000 a year in grant awards. In 2006 the Cabot Family again invested in the extended Bar NI Ranch community by almost doubling the annual grant award amount.

Through a series of collaborative community leader meetings, the primary areas identified for the BNI CF to focus their mission on were determined to be:

  • Education
  • Youth Development
  • Environment/Conservation
  • Health and Human Services
  • Civic and Public Benefit
