- Holy Tirinity Academy Little Hands Alternative Gardening Project
This project will introduce Kindergarten through third grade Holy Trinity Academy students to alternative gardening. Students will learn how to plant a garden and cultivate a compost pile for fertilizing the garden. The complete project will take an entire school year with various lesson plans and hands on activities developed to enforce gardening concepts, nutrition, environmental awareness, recycling and community service. The students will learn basic gardening skills and gain horticulture knowledge.
By growing vegetables, children will better understand from where their food comes, gain more positive food attitudes and participate in the school garden to build leadership, team work, and self-confidence through ownership of a project and collaboration with other students.
The grant funding will be used to purchase materials including “how to” books, activity guides, gardening kits, indoor grow labs, green house shelves, maintenance tools, a lifetime composter, soil, seeds and a laptop for research.
