- Trinidad Carnegie Children and Youth Library Early Literacy Program
The Reading Readiness Roundup (RRR) is an early literacy program offered to parents with children ages 4-6 through the Carnegie Public Library Children’s Program and its director, retired teacher Phyllis Kilgroe. This RRR Program will provide parents tools to become familiar and comfortable with teaching their children the different early literacy skills to become confident and independent readers.
The following six pre-reading skills will be integrated into the RRR program; 1) Narrative Skills, 2) Print Motivation, 3) Vocabulary, 4) Phonological Awareness, 5) Letter Knowledge, and 6) Print Awareness. Retired Eckhart 1st grade teacher, Cherie Holder has developed workshops and activities incorporating these pre-reading skills and will teach and lead the program. All of the focus skills and activities will ultimately provide parents with the confidence to teach their children to read before and after they begin their formal school years.
