Website Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was last updated on August 20, 2020. If you have not reviewed it since that date, please do so now.

Overview

Successful family offices recognize the importance of communication and making sure they are providing value and relevance to the family being served.  Your family office maintains  www.cabotwellington.com (the “CW Website”) to promote the work of the office and that of the family enterprise as a whole.  It is an on-line portal administered by Cabot-Wellington, LLC  that allows family members and trusted advisors to access and share information relevant to the Cabot family.

We ask that you use the site responsibly and be mindful that it is a tool to access and share information that is of value  to the clients and family members of the family office.

In this document (the “Privacy Policy”) we provide information on what personal information is collected and explain how you can view this personal information, control its content, or delete it.   We recognize the sensitivity and confidentiality of information that may be disclosed by family users in logging in and making use of the CW Website.  The personal information that you and other users enter is stored in the CW Website only for the purpose of sharing with other family members.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will issue an updated version of this Privacy Policy with an updated date legend (and/or notify you via email or by other appropriate means) so that you will be aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it in accordance with applicable law.  If you do not consent to the Privacy Policy or to any changes to our privacy statement and as a result you would like us not to use or hold your information in accordance with the revised terms, you may contact us (see contact information at the bottom of this Privacy Policy) so that we will delete your information and/or account.

Whenever this Privacy Policy is modified in substance, the label “updated” will be displayed prominently next to the “Privacy” link in the footer of the Family Website pages.  The “updated” label will be removed after 30 days.  Use of the CW Website following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy then in effect.  If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use the CW Website.

Overview

The purpose of this CW Website is to serve as a resource to all family members.  The family can benefit from creating a virtual platform where the  resources of the family enterprise can be accessed and shared.

The CW Website does not allow for third party access or access by anyone who has not been invited in as a family member or trusted advisor to utilize the website.  However, while the CW Website, like the internet itself, is designed to add value to your experience as a family member and client of the family office, sharing information on the internet carries with it risks.  By using this CW Website you consent to the collection, use, storage and disclosure of the personal information you share in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

For those who are uncertain about the risks of sharing information online, the federal government and technology industry have developed practical tips to help you guard against internet fraud, secure your computer and protect your personal information.

If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy or are uncomfortable with assuming the risks of internet convenience and information sharing, please do not use the CW Website.

What personal information does the Family Website contain?

The website contains your name, email address, account username (usually the first part of your email address), contact information, family entity governance positions, birthdate, family tree relationships, social media preferences, personal interests, photos, videos and other media, and dates and places of events. Our servers also keep a log of IP addresses that access the site for security reasons, but that data cannot be used to identify any of our users.

How does your personal information get used?

The information on the family website is shared with other family members who are users of the Family Website.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Will CW, LLC disclose any of my personal information to third parties?

No. None of the personal information provided by family members is distributed outside of the Family Website.  The personal information provided by our users will not be sold, licensed or otherwise shared by us with advertisers, sponsors, partners or other third parties.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for a year, and screen options cookies also last for a year. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We may also partner with selected third-party vendors Google Analytics and Hotjar, to allow tracking technologies and remarketing services on the Site through the use of first party cookies and third-party cookies, to, among other things, analyze and track users’ use of the Site, determine the popularity of certain content and better understand online activity.  By accessing the Site, you consent to the collection and use of your information by these third-party vendors. You are encouraged to review their privacy policy and contact them directly for responses to your questions. We do not transfer personal information to these third-party vendors.  However, if you do not want any information to be collected and used by tracking technologies, you can visit the third-party vendor or the Network Advertising Initiative Opt-Out Tool or Digital Advertising Alliance Opt-Out Tool.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For all users of the password protected areas, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

May you refuse to provide personal information to the Family Website?

Yes, of course.  You may refuse to provide personal information to the Family Website. In fact, family members may access the public area of the site without registering as a user.  In addition, the amount of personal information you decide to share within the Family Website is up to you but you must contact CW, LLC site manager if you choose to have your entire profile deleted.  The personal information posted on the Family Website is intended for family use only.  Naturally, removing or restricting your personal information may compromise the usefulness of the site for you and other family members.

How do you report, change or delete information about yourself or your immediate family?

Your profile is controlled by you and information can be amended or deleted from the Family Website by either you or the CW, LLC site manager. Each family user is responsible to protect his or her username and password. Any family member may modify his/her personal information, including password, by logging into the Family Website, visiting their family directory profile and editing it.

If you have any questions about this privacy statement, the management of the Family Website, or would like the web manager to update, correct inaccuracies or delete personal information, please contact us at: webmaster@cabotwellington.com or call: 617-451-1744

We hope you enjoy the Cabot Family Website!
